About
Dan grew up in the communications world at Ogilvy with experiences on DuPont and Johnson & Johnson in China. Shortly after, he joined a small group of sustainability pioneers and helped create and build OgilvyEarth, Ogilvy’s sustainability consulting and marketing practice. Dan helped grow OgilvyEarth in three years to a global practice with over twenty offices. Dan believes that organizations will be most effective when their social values are built into their business strategy. He helped define OgilvyEarth’s point of view around this belief. Dan has won and led relationships with The Coca-Cola Company, The United Nations, Domtar and Unilever helping them find the business opportunity in sustainability and developing unique marketing platforms and movements for each. Dan recently co-founded The Mutual, a for-profit social enterprise that rewards people for donating to charity with Perks from great brands. He is the Chief Executive Officer for The Mutual, leading a team on the growth of the organization. Dan fiercely believes in The Mutual’s vision to align the self-interests of businesses and people as a means of change to create a better world, which he calls Profitable Activism. The Mutual has garnered a slew of press attention from publications like Fast Company, GreenBiz, GOOD and Mashable. Dan has brought his purpose-driven approach to business to life outside of the office, in 2008 he ran the NYC Marathon and created a fundraising platform and brand, We Are Not Athletes (WANA) to propagate support for the race and fundraising goals. Dan raised over $10,000 for the American Cancer Society. Dan has collaborated with local supper clubs and is part of the epic cooking team Righteous Burn. Dan also sits on the advisory board of the non-profit, Water Collective and Social Innovators Collective.SocialChange.is is a story, idea & resource sharing platform for social entrepreneurs & intrapreneurs to share the experiences, insights & lessons learned in creating innovative forms of social impact.
