Since launching SocialChange.is in August of 2012 I’ve seen it grow in ways I didn’t expect. We now reach tens of thousands of people from around the world and provide a central place where people can read amazing about the amazing experiences, ideas, insights, and lessons learned from change makers that previously had been inaccessible. I’ve gotten to know so many great people who have become SocialChange.is Contributors as well as met countless others that will not only lead to future partnerships, but also close friendships. I’ve loved every part of building SocialChange.is and this is why it has been hard to see no posts being published over the past month. However, this was all for good reasons and I’d like to share them with you now.
The first is over the past few months I’ve been working non-stop on organizing another venture of mine, Be Social Change, as a non-profit in order to scale out our educational program and community-building efforts. As an organization our mission is to educate and connect the next generation of change makers creating bold and innovative social impact and we have been busy redesigning our website, submitting our legal paperwork, structuring our amazing team, and building a number of great resource-sharing tools. Check us out and let us know what you think on Twitter or at marcos@besocialchange.com!
The second reason for no posts this past month is I felt I needed to take a step back to look at how SocialChange.is has evolved and where it can have the most impact for both readers and Contributors. What I learned in rereading all the amazing posts that have been published, speaking to diverse groups of readers, connecting with fellow Contributors, and analyzing the trends within the overall social change space is that there are four major areas we need to be focusing on right now: Social Entrepreneurship, Non-Profits, Social Intrapreneurship, and Government. Previously I had tried to get more specific about topics we should be writing about but as the space is evolving and growing these broader categories are a better fit. There are a few other major topic areas we will be integrating in 2013 but for now we need a simple structure that helps our Contributors focus their writing while making it easier for readers to find content they are interested in. We will continue so use this same Build-Measure-Learn process and interate to ensure we are providing the best support for our Contributors and delivering the highest-quality content that will have the most meaningful impact for our readers.
At our core SocialChange.is is still a story, idea, and resource -sharing platform for social entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs from around the world to share their experiences, insights, and lessons learned in creating innovative forms of social impact. Our mission is to connect readers to the ideas, people, and organizations creating the future of social change and empower the next generation of change makers create bold and innovative social impact. Our Contributors include social entrepreneurs building new systems, business models, and platforms within the for-profit and non-profit sectors as well as social intrapreneurs amplifying impact and innovating within existing organizations and government.
We have so many great posts ready to be published – a big thanks to all our amazing Contributors – and we will start up with new posts next week! If you have any questions, feedback, or just want to connect you can reach me on Twitter or at marcos@socialchange.is.
